Scottish Swimming’s Young Leader Squad residential weekend will be held at Fordell Firs Residential Centre, near Dunfermline on Friday 24th - Sunday 26th February 2024.

Earlier this year, two of our swimmers, Maya Adair and Ashton Kerridge, took part in the weekend in the Scottish Borders, and on the back of their successful completion, we are now looking for two swimmers to represent the club at next year’s event.

On the weekend residential course, you will meet other like-minded young people with a passion for their club and pass on this enthusiasm to younger club members. It’s a fun weekend with lots of positive content, exploring how to represent the views of your fellow members, get more involved, and helping you to becoming a great Young Leader. We’re sure that Maya and Ashton would be happy to share their experiences if you are interested.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Be the voice of younger members in your club
  • Act as a contact for all young members
  • Consult with the club’s young members to gather their views
  • Attend meetings to ensure members’ views are taken into account
  • Come up with ideas and activities to motivate club members
  • Run fun activities to make your club fun and keep people attending

WHAT ATTRIBUTES DO YOU NEED?

  • Approachable and good listener
  • Good communicator with young people and adults
  • Ability to influence and inspire others
  • Motivator
  • Enthusiastic and passionate
  • Age 14-17 (this is a club requirement)
  • Scottish Swimming Member

HOW MUCH TIME DO I NEED TO GIVE?

Simply attend the weekend residential where you will receive SCQF qualifications in communication and goal setting. Then it’s over to you! Work with your club and committee to implement the ideas and activities you think is right for your club.

The cost for the programme is £150, of which the club will pay 50%. This includes all residential costs and hoodie.

If you are aged 14-17 by the time the event takes place and are interested in becoming a Young Leader, please let us know by 14th October. You can do this in one or two ways – you or your parent/guardian can drop us an email to Frani, our Club Secretary (swimglenrothes@hotmail.com), or alternatively speak to your coach or a committee member who can pass this information on.
