Code of Conduct

Code of Ethics Principle Statement:

Sporting integrity is based on the acceptance of rules, fairness, equality, respect for others, moral conduct and a sense of what is right. Scottish sports goal is to create a sporting environment where violence, breaking the rules, abuse of drugs, lack of fair play and other unethical behaviours are unacceptable.

GASC objective:

The Club is committed to the promotion of excellence in swimming and the fostering of a sense of individual achievement and sporting fairness within a competitive yet supportive environment. The following codes of conduct are designed to assist in the achievement of this objective.

Swimmers Code of Conduct

All swimmers in squads and teaching blocks are expected to:

  • Support the code of ethics principle statement.
  • Behave with respect to others including coaches, volunteers and swimmers, at all times.
  • Respect the privacy of all others whilst in the changing areas and toilet areas at any swimming pool.
  • Treat all others how you would like to be treated, with integrity and fairness.
  • Be punctual for training sessions and gala warm-ups.
  • Always train and compete to the best of your ability
  • Listen to the instructions from the coaches/ teaching staff.
  • Communicate openly, honestly and politely with coaches, volunteers and other swimmers.
  • Support and encourage fellow swimmers and give total commitment to GASC.
  • Not to be under the influence of alcohol, drugs or abusive substances.

Parents Code of Conduct

All parents are expected:

  • To support and encourage their child whenever possible in all their efforts for the Club and in complying with the Swimmer’s Code of Conduct.
  • To try at all times to consider the interests of other children and all others involved with the activities of the Club and treat them fairly and with respect.
  • To deliver and collect your child punctually to and from training sessions and galas, ensure a coach is present before leaving your child.
  • To be courteous and respectful to the coaching staff and all other Club members, verbal abuse, humiliation or intimidation will not be tolerated.
  • To ensure update of records form is completed annually and membership secretary is informed of any changes in medical/contact information. Also coaches must be made aware of any illnesses, injuries or medication.
  • To ensure prompt payment of swimmers fees. Squad fees should preferably be paid by direct debit on a monthly basis, and should be paid by the end of the current month for that month at the very latest. Teaching fees should be paid per 10 week block preferably on week 1 of each new block. Entry fees for galas should be paid BEFORE competing at the gala.
  • Not to enter poolside unless in an emergency. Also you should not attempt to communicate with your child or their coach during a training session, after the session would be an appropriate time to communicate with the coach or arrange an appointment if you wish to discuss any issue regarding your child.
  • To encourage their child to do their best and maximise their potential within the Club.
  • To try to actively support the Club in its swimming fundraising and other activities.
  • Do Not use mobile phones in the changing rooms or toilet areas of any swimming pool.
