🎄 Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from GASC! 🎄
As we celebrate the festive season and look back on an incredible 2025, we want to thank every swimmer, parent, and volunteer who has helped make this year such a success. Your energy and commitment are what keep our club thriving — in and out of the water!
At our recent Club AGM, we said a huge thank you and emotional farewell to Duncan Simpson as he stepped down as President – but don’t worry he will still be around cheering on our swimmers and especially his four grand children.
With Duncan stepping down we are delighted to announce that Frances Hughes has taken on this role and is excited to support the club throughout 2026. Frances’ grandson swims with GASC, and she’s been cheering him — and all our swimmers — on from the sidelines for the past two years. Having served as Vice-President for the past year shadowing Duncan, Frances has gained great insight into how the club runs and the amazing community that makes it all possible.
Kathryn Sharp will continue as Vice-President, working alongside Frances and the rest of our wonderful committee who make keep our club running.
Keep an eye on the club website in January, where we will be posting our ‘Getting to know our people’ starting with Frances, Kathryn and our new committee members that have very recently stepped into new roles. Hopefully this will allow you to get to know the new faces around the pool.
Looking Ahead to 2026
2025 has been a fantastic year for GASC, and we’re excited about what’s to come in 2026. Our swimmers are going from strength to strength, and to keep that momentum going, we need to add to the strong team behind the scenes.
Our club is run entirely by volunteers, and many of our long-standing helpers are reaching the end of their time with us as their swimmers move on to their next chapter. We’re at a crucial point where we need new faces to step forward and help share the work our committee do.
Here are some roles we’re looking to fill or support:
Club Treasurer (Urgently Needed)
Oversee the club’s finances with full support and handover from our fabulous current Treasurer Julia, our current Treasurer. Perfect if you’re organised and comfortable with numbers.
- Membership Secretary
Manage sign-ups, leavers, and membership admin. Full handover from our amazing Membership Secretary, Katrina will be provided.Ideal for someone confident with systems. - Gala Secretary (Assistant / Shadow Role)
Support our Gala Queen Leanne with gala organisation. Great for someone keen to learn about Gala’s, and is detail-oriented. - Club Shop Manager
Take on the challenge of running our club shop, supporting our swimmers to access the equipment they need and raising club funds at the same time. Over the last year Sam and Natasha have worked hard to make the shop a huge success and are ready to support the next Club Shop Manager to take up this exciting role. If you are organised, good with numbers and like speaking to our swimmers and parents this is the perfect role for you. - Fundraising Support
Help come up with ideas and support fundraising activities alongside our Fundraising guru,Lynette. Great for someone who enjoys chatting to people and thinking creatively. - Sponsorship Support
Support Jen, our Sponsorship Lead, by looking for sponsorship opportunities with local businesses and searching for/applying for grants the club may be eligible for. - Poolside Helpers
Our Poolside Helper courses were a huge success in 2025, with three helpers becoming coaches! More courses will launch in 2026 — a fun and rewarding way to get involved and understand more about what your swimmer is up to. So please get in touch if this interests you.
Our swimmers shine in the water — but to keep that success going, we need the same strength behind the scenes.
